About Us
KeMU is Kenya’s body for all Kenyan musicians.
The Kenya Musicians Unions' main objective is to protect and represent the economic and social interests of all Kenyan musicians and to promote the welfare of its members. There has been a protracted battle between a group of musicians and the Registrar of Trade Unions, since the first application for the registration of what was originally called the Kenya Musicians Association was made in 2007. After a conference by the International Federation of Musicians in Nairobi, Kenya in 2012 artists in Kenya have been working towards the formation of the Union. Katana, the bandleader of Them Mushrooms, is the interim General Secretary of the unregistered union and has been at the forefront of the struggle to legalize the body.
Mission: To safeguard our members' rights and promote their social-welfare
Vision: To exercise collective power to create a fairer (music) work environment for our members
Core values:
Teamwork: Through our individual strengths we energize our joint efforts to improve the lives of the members we serve.
Accountability: We hold ourselves personally and collectively responsible to do right and adhere to the Union’s ethical principles in an environment of openness and honesty.
Communication: We are committed to the timely and transparent exchange of information with members and encourage respectful interaction with them through listening, understanding and assumption of positive intent.
Member Services: We strive for the highest standards in member services delivery and seek continuous improvement through feedback from our members.
Responsiveness: We strive to respond timely and appropriately to members' queries.
